Assembly

Frequently asked questions
about installing our products

In principle, our carriers can be fitted to all bicycles without a suspended rear wheel that have a hole/eyelet with or without a thread of 5 or 6 mm on each side of the dropout above the rear wheel axle. There should also be threaded eyelets at the top of the seat stays (see question 3).

You can find the exact dimensions of our carriers in the ‘technical drawing’ directly on the product description page here on our homepage. This information provides information on the structural requirements of the frame. If you are unsure, please contact your local bike dealer.

The prerequisite for mounting a carrier on an e-bike is the general approval of the manufacturer for the bike itself and the carrier. If in doubt, please ask your bike dealer.

Not in every case, as we manufacture a large number of special models in addition to our standard range. These are specially adapted to the respective bike and may differ from our standard carriers in terms of their dimensions and installation requirements. The replacement of such a carrier must therefore be treated as a new installation (see question 1).

If your bike does not have eyelets at the top of the seat stays, you can mount our carriers using the clamp adapter set (depending on the diameter of the seat stay, item no.: 71614 - 71624).

The IMM versions (IMM=Integrated Mudguard Mounting) of some of our carriers may also be suitable. These are mounted to the seat stay bridge using a rail that runs underneath the mudguard. Threaded eyelets are essential for the lower attachment.

1. The installation width at the lower position (outer dimension of the dropouts).
2. The height from the lower position to above the tyre or mudguard.
3. The width of the tyre or mudguard.

The struts can be bent up to an angle of 45°. It is important that the bend is at least 20 mm away from the flattened end of the strut. The easiest way to bend the struts is in a vice. However, be sure to place a piece of leather, wood or similar underneath to prevent the struts from scratching. The free end can then be bent to the desired position using a tube.

TIP: If it is a carrier with 2 mounting struts, both struts should be bent in parallel to create the same bend.

Yes, you can do this without any problems. Simply take a sharp metal saw and shorten the round struts at the desired point (with a 1 cm overhang). We recommend deburring the sawn area afterwards, sealing it with black paint and fitting the strut end caps supplied (item 71008).

Yes, racktime CLIPIT (Art. 08010) / CLIPIT 2.0 (Art. 098010-001), which are attached to the seat post, are suitable for this purpose.

Optional siderails (Art. 08019) also make it possible to transport bags attached to the side.

racktime CLIPIT (Art. 08010) / CLIPIT 2.0 (Art. 098010-001) are not approved for mounting on carbon seat posts!

Bicycles with disc brakes do not generally require a special carrier. However, there are bicycles on which the position of the brake callipers does not allow easy mounting. In such cases, there is usually a possibility using spacer sleeves. Please ask your bike dealer for advice on this.

You will find all the individual parts with article numbers in the assembly instructions for our products. If one of these parts has gone missing, your bike dealer can reorder almost any of these parts from us individually or as a set.

No.

Attaching a child seat to a racktime carrier is prohibited!

Our luggage carriers are very resistant to bending and other stresses that occur while riding. However, if attachments (e.g. child seats) are fastened using crimp clamps, this can lead to breakage of the carrier because racktime carriers are made of thin-walled tubing. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.

Please note: A child seat that is attached to our carriers by means of a crimp connection, as well as carrying people on the carrier, jeopardises not only your warranty claim, but also the life and limb of the child or the person travelling with them!

The international test standard for bicycle carriers, ISO11243, automatically defines carriers with a permissible load of 27 kg or more as suitable for attaching a child seat. For this reason, we specify a maximum load capacity of 25 kg for racktime carriers, even if a carrier is technically suitable for higher loads.

For safety reasons, we also do not offer a child seat adapter for the racktime SNAPIT/SNAPIT 2.0 system.

Frequently asked questions
about our accessories

Measure the tube diameter of your loading platform and the internal dimensions as described in the picture. These measurements will help you find the right spring clamp.
Determining the spring clamp
a: Internal platform dimension
Ø: Loading platform tube diameter

Yes, the height of the SNAPIT or SNAPIT 2.0 system allows an installed spring clamp to remain on the carrier while a basket or bag is being used at the same time.

Yes, with our SNAPIT 2.0 CONNECT (ART. 37001), the SNAPIT 2.0 accessories can also be used on carriers from other manufacturers. The requirements for the existing luggage carrier: round tubes 8-18 mm, platform width 60-150 mm.

Yes, the SNAPIT/SNAPIT 2.0 adapters can be screwed under almost any container - provided you have a sufficiently stable base plate! For example, you can use an existing and suitable crate on your racktime carrier. However, the maximum permissible load weight of the adapter must always be observed.

If a bike falls over with the basket mounted, large leverage forces can act on the attachment. It is therefore better for the smaller plastic parts to break than for the carrier to be damaged. You can order all the individual parts of the SNAPIT adapter from your bike dealer.

No! Please check whether your racktime carrier has the SNAPIT or SNAPIT 2.0 system. Then you can choose the right basket or bag, because almost every racktime basket and almost every racktime bag that is suitable for transport on the loading area of the carrier comes with a pre-installed SNAPIT or SNAPIT 2.0 adapter as standard.

We have a few products, such as BOOTBAG or BASKIT EDGE, which are also available without an adapter, but these are always labelled 'w/o adapter'.

racktime bags that are suitable for side mounting on the carrier have the racktime hook system pre-installed. You can also use such bags on other carriers.

Most side bags have hook systems which, when attached to the top of the loading area, would collide with the SNAPIT/SNAPIT 2.0 adapter. In our range, you will find touring carriers that offer a second, deeper railing for attaching bags. This not only gives you better handling (as the centre of gravity of the bags is lower), but also allows you to use the bags and basket at the same time.

Yes, with our STECKACHSENADAPTER (ART. 71700), our carriers can also be mounted on bicycles without mounts on the dropout.

If the carrier is not high enough, our foot extension sets (ART. 70024, 71500 and 71600) can help.

Yes, please note the different versions, narrow/wide and with/without parking light. "AC" or "DC" is stamped on the underside of the light unit.

Light units:
Art. 13601, wide (124 mm), with parking light, dynamo operation (AC) (alternating current)
Art. 13614, narrow (94 mm), with parking light, dynamo operation (AC)
Art. 13622, wide (124 mm), without parking light, e-bike battery operation (DC)
Art. 13635, narrow (94 mm), without parking light, e-bike battery operation (DC)

Connecting spigot:
Art. 13508, spigot left
Art. 13509, spigot right

As most bike dealers do not receive racktime accessories directly, but via wholesalers, we unfortunately do not have a list of dealers. However, in the vast majority of cases it should be possible for your local dealer to order your desired accessories quickly.

Yes, there are options for retrofitting a lock. The SECUREIT mortise lock (ART. 17009) is required for the SNAPIT adapter. If SNAPIT 2.0 accessories are used, the existing adapter can be replaced with a version with an integrated lock (ART. 27021 or 27022). Alternatively, bike retailers can order the lock for the SNAPIT 2.0 adapter separately from us (ART. 31112).

The lock variants for SNAPIT and SNAPIT 2.0 are not compatible with each other.
Protection & care

Frequently asked questions
about the protection and care of our products

The fastening parts of panniers are usually made of fibreglass-reinforced plastic, which acts like sandpaper when in motion. If there is no protection between these plastic parts and the carrier, considerable abrasion will inevitably occur.

As abrasion can occur when riding despite the use of a highly resistant powder coating (see also answer 1 on protection and care), we recommend protecting the carrier with our abrasion protection set (item 79006) or protective film set (item 79005).

Also always make sure that the bags are tight. The inside diameter of the bag hooks must be adapted to the tube diameter of our carriers (if necessary with adapter pieces, which should be included with the bag). The lower hook should also be as tight as possible on the tube.

If there are already bare spots, simply sand them with fine sandpaper if necessary and then paint the area with a commercially available touch-up pen (from car accessories; black: RAL 9005 matt / silver: RAL 9006 matt).

Please note that rubbed bare spots are no reason for a complaint.

Many racktime bicycle baskets are made of a thin steel wire with a flexible plastic coating. If the coating is damaged during use, rust will inevitably form. Rust can be prevented by using paint spray or spray wax, for example.

Simply wipe your racktime bag or basket with a damp cloth. Harsh cleaning agents and bleach should not be used.

Spray the zips regularly with a little silicone spray to keep them running smoothly. Impregnate seams and fabric with a suitable agent that also serves as UV protection.
